In a video first published by Boston 25 News, a small airplane can be seen crashing into the ocean near a New Hampshire beach on Saturday, July 29.
In one of the multiple videos of the incident, as seen above, the plane comes dangerously close to people who were swimming on Hampton Beach. It hit the water and was briefly submerged, but the pilot was able to escape the craft moments later.
According to the Hampton Fire Department, who responded to the crash, only the pilot was onboard the craft, and lifeguards responded by approaching the plane and the pilot. Several lifeguards helped bring the plane back to the shore. The pilot was evaluated at the beach and did not need to go to the hospital for further treatment.
Per CBS News, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
Earlier this month, the FAA launched an investigation after a plane's emergency evacuation slide fell of during a United Airlines flight and landed in the backyard of a home near the Chicago O'Hare International Airport. “Maintenance workers at Chicago O'Hare International Airport discovered an emergency evacuation slide was missing from a United Airlines Boeing 767 (UAL Flight 12) that had just landed safely after a flight from Switzerland,” the FAA spokesperson told Complex. “The slide was located in a nearby neighborhood. The FAA is investigating.”
A single-engine aircraft crashed into a New Hampshire home last year, killing the two people onboard. The tragedy happened shortly after the plane departed from the Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport.
