Small dog stuck on the Seneca River

A tiny Shih Tzu had a bit of a “ruff” day on Thursday, after it found itself stuck in the middle of a frozen river.

The small dog, which was apparently chasing geese before its leash got stuck on the Seneca River in Lysander, was eventually rescued by the New York’s Plainville Fire Department, according to Syracuse.com, but the mission to secure the pub was no easy matter.

It all began when deputies and firefighters responded at 9:12 a.m. after they discovered the dog was stuck 30 yards from shore, per Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches. Luckily, a rescue crew—wearing equipment from the Jordan Fire Department—acted promptly by crawling to the pet and leading it to safety.

Many on Facebook applauded the rescue team for the successful mission, and some might say they were greeted with a round of a-paws. As People shares, one person wrote, “Thank you to everyone who helped save this little dog! That is no easy task.”

Rescuing pups from frozen lakes is surely heroic, which is something that Leonardo DiCaprio should know very well. During a roundtable for Entertainment Weekly, Leo and his fellow Don’t Look Up stars discussed a moment filming when the movie star jumped into a frozen lake to rescue his two huskies, who just so happened to wind up in the water together.

“One of the dogs fell in, he jumped into the frozen lake to save the dog and as soon as he pushed the one dog out of the pond, the other one jumped in,” Jennifer Lawrence said. “… And I’m sure you guys are all wondering, I was too—he immediately got naked in the car.”
