Snoop Dogg is partnering with Canadian brand, Tweed, to launch a new series of weed strains. The legendary rapper will release "Leafs by Snoop", a line of cannabis that will be readily available to registered users of Tweed. The news comes via a press release, which cites a launch for later this month. The company took to Twitter to celebrate the collaboration, posting a jazz cover of "Who Am I?".
Well, that video was smooth. Something that might not be, however, is the branding of "Leafs". The rapper filed for a patent using his new name and logo, but its similarities to the Toronto hockey team of the same name, might spark a lawsuit. Earlier this year, TSN reporter, Rick Westhead, wrote "Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment filed an opposition to Snoop’s logo on June 8, asking the Alexandria, Va.-based trademark office for more time to detail its opposition." The main argument to be made by the Toronto franchise, is that the logo similarities may cause confusion in the market. Snoop himself is a hockey fan, often caught taking in Anaheim Ducks games. The rapper famously rocked a Leafs jersey during his 1993 appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show.
In the meantime, it seems that Snoop has the green light (all puns intended). In his own official statement, the emcee expressed excitement about the launch of his new product. "What started for me in the '90s in Cali now has a home in places like Colorado, where real progress is being made. Now that Leafs by Snoop is coming to Tweed, I'll be able to share my passion for the best cannabis on the planet with Canada."
