Multiple people were killed Wednesday in what was said to be "one of the worst shootings in Wisconsin history."
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the incident took place at around 2 p.m. local time on the Milwaukee campus of Molson Coors. Sources told the outlet at least seven individuals—including the gunman—have been killed; however, the Milwaukee Police Department has not confirmed the exact number of fatalities.
At around 2:20 p.m., employees of the brewery complex were reportedly notified about an active shooter inside Building 4. The campus, as well as nearby businesses and schools, was subsequently placed on lockdown.
"I just overheard on the radio seven — seven — victims. We might want to get some more med units here," a fire commander was heard saying over the radio, according the Journal Sentinel.
"I just had a police officer inform me that the the shooter committed suicide and (the officer) believes they have six victims besides the shooter," another fire commander reportedly told dispatchers.
Shortly before 5 p.m., Wisconsin police announced there was no longer an active threat. Authorities have not revealed any information about the gunman or how the shooting unfolded.
"What has happened is there was a horrific shooting that has occurred," Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barret told reporters. "We’re urging all residents and people in this area to stay away from this area. ... They're continuing their sweep to make sure there is nothing more that's occurring. It is a horrible, horrible day for the employees here. It’s a very rough day for anyone who is close to this situation."
