Quentin Johnson is adding a much-needed dose of humor to online cooking videos.
The 26-year-old Georgia man, better known as LePub James, has gained a large following with a series of viral videos in which he narrates instructional cooking clips. James' amusingly honest, seemingly off-the-cuff commentary has even caught the attention of filmmaker/producer Ava DuVernay.
James recently told BuzzFeed he made his first voiceover video out of boredom and had no idea it would blow up. "I saw this guy cooking these huge ribs and I was talking to myself while watching the video and then I thought that would probably be a cool and funny voiceover," he said. He went on to add, "Surprisingly, all of the responses have been all positive. Almost everyone wants me to drop a video every day, really every hour, but I don’t want to drown people in cooking videos and then it loses the funny.”
James said he believes he has finally found his niche and intends to create these types of videos forever. But that doesn't mean he's opposed to bigger opportunities in entertainment.
"I’ve been making viral videos since 2014 ever since Vine with over 300K followers. I didn’t capitalize then but now I’m not taking my foot off of the gas," he explained. "Of course I want to be on the big screen, but if not that’s OK too. I enjoy making people laugh at the end of the day, and whatever opportunity opens up for me I will take and put in 1000 percent effort."
