After renting a jet ski for a mid-vacation ride in Barbados, a New Jersey couple never returned, per local authorities.

NBC Newsreported Wednesday that Magdalena Devil and Oscar Suarez had made their way to the Caribbean island over the weekend, with plans on returning to the States a week later. Royal Barbados Police say they rented the jet ski Monday and were both wearing life jackets at the time of their departure. However, the couple was reported as missing that same day after the operator of the jet ski rental facility became concerned.

An "extensive" preliminary search (including at the couple's hotel) was initiated amid a missing persons alert in the region. According to police, neither the couple nor the jet ski have been found as of Wednesday morning.

Police are now asking for assistance from the public, having released a Missing Persons bulletin via Facebook Tuesday. Per local Jersey reports, the couple's home address was in Montclair.

The U.S. Embassy is now working with Barbados authorities on the search. According to NBC News, 25-year-old Magdalena Devil "appears to" run a baking business, while 32-year-old Oscar Suarez is described on social media as a "father above all else."

Additional info on the couple and the ongoing investigation has not been released.
