NYC mayor Bill de Blasio has joined the increasingly crowded assortment of hopeful Democratic nominees for the office of POTUS.

"There's plenty of money in this world, there's plenty of money in this country, it's just in the wrong hands," de Blasio said in an announcement video Thursday. The video also includes shots of the city, with de Blasio looking back on his work on regional healthcare and minimum wage reform.

Not to be a killjoy, says, @bobhardt, but not only did de Blasio film his intro ad in a SUV but in the back of what appears to be his city vehicle — which he's not allowed to film political ads in, https://t.co/13R6rtYRRq

This announcement makes him something like the trillionth person to announce a 2020 campaign on the non-Trump side of our dilapidated political infrastructure or whatever. "I'm running for president because it's time we put working people first," de Blasio said Thursday.

Joe Biden, Cory Booker, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Marianne Williamson, and Beto O'Rourke previously announced 2020 campaigns. With his announcement, de Blasio also becomes the third mayor competing for the White House.

Issue-wise, the New York Timesran a handy guide on de Blasio's stances Thursday, noting his record is "more complex" than what might be gleaned from his rhetoric. On immigration, for example, de Blasio has been praised for his $100 million plan to provide medical treatment for undocumented immigrants but criticized for a 2017 move regarding the terms of a legal defense funding measure.
