Hundreds of youth gun control activists marched across the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday to protest gun violence during the "Youth over Guns" march.
On Saturday morning, orange-clad protesters, activist groups (including March For Our Lives NYC), and celebrities (like Susan Sarandon and Julianne Moore) from the across the five boroughs and the country gathered in New York City, the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Brooklyn specifically, to march. The protest ended in Foley Square in Manhattan according to New York Daily News.
The day before the protest, Jania Perry of Street Corner Resources told ABC 7, "I need to put a stop to this - I need to put a stop to gun violence period, and if I can do anything to change that, that's what I'm gonna do."
That sentiment was strong on the day after National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
Ramon Contreras, 19 and a co-founder of the 'Youth over Guns' March, told ABC, "Gun violence extends beyond the pull of a trigger. Some of the roots, it goes to a lack of funding, and lack of effort towards our public school educational system and lack of funding towards local gun violence prevention groups who work on this issue for years now and work on the ground with students, and they are getting the funding and attention that they need," Contreras said.
