When you're sitting in front of the television, thousands of miles away from the distant city of Sochi, Russia, it's difficult to imagine the immensity of the 2014 Winter Olympics—even with cameramen depicting the games from high up in a tree or a helicopter.
Taking aerial photographs to a whole new extreme, an Expedition 38 crew member aboard the International Space Station decided to snap a vertical 600mm photograph of the Russian city during the Olympic games. The snapshot, which features the luminous arena and speckles of glittering light around it, is an epic sight to behold.
