February was a crazy busy month for fashion. Tradeshows happened, NYFW happened, awards season came and went—all within 28 days. Superlatives are usually saved for end-of-the-year lists and high school yearbooks, but we decided to breakdown the class clowns and best dressed students when it comes to style this month. Click through to see our picks for Style Superlatives: February 2013 Fashion Awards.
Most Unexpected Trend: Face Masks
A$AP Rocky's been rocking balaclavas for a while now, then the one and only Kanye West started rocking designer masks, and now with 2 Chainz and Justin Bieber experimenting with face coverings, masks have become a full-blown trend. What's weirder, face masks or skirts?
Craziest Fashion Show: Hood By Air
Shayne Oliver had a runway show at Milk Studios during NYFW and named his latest Hood by Air collection "Boy Child" after the performance artist who happened to walk many looks at the show. Boy Child rocked crazy contacts and laser teeth and walked through the fog machine eerily. It was definitely the craziest fashion show this month.
9. Funniest Fashion Moment: Mark McNairy's Tupperware Shirt
McNasty sent a plaid flannel down the runway that made the attendees in-the-know chuckle. Riffing off of Virgil Abloh's Pyrex designs, the menswear designer used "Tupperware" instead.
Hip-Hop's Favorite Brand: En Noir
A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Pusha-T, and most recently Drake and 2 Chainz at All-Star Weekend...what rapper isn't wearing En Noir? Rob Garcia's designs have been picked up by the stylish members of hip-hop, so there's no stopping anytime soon.
Most Likely to Blow Up in 2013: Public School
We came up with a list of 10 brands that are about to blow up, but didn't include Public School because in our minds, they've already made it into the big leagues. However, when it comes to which brand cool guys will be rocking non-stop this year, it's definitely Public School. The A$AP Rocky and Carmelo Anthony sightings at the brand's presentation this NYFW only amps up the hype.
Award Show Killer: 2 Chainz
So 2 Chainz wore a cape to the Grammys and actually pulled it off. Hip-hop Count Dracula.
Most Likely to Become a Style Icon: Frank Ocean
Frank Ocean wore a sick yellow suit by Band of Outsiders in the "Forrest Gump" video, and was one of the best dressed at the Grammys in his blue Dior Homme number. He's really growing into his personal style and we can't wait to see what he wears next.
Blogger's Pet: GANT Rugger
Designer Christopher Bastin enlisted menswear personalities (including Four Pins' Lawrence Schlossman) for "Team Americano" and had them model the new collection. Because the clothing aficionados themselves were the inspiration behind the collection, GANT Rugger ads was reblogged and Instagrammed like crazy this month.
Craziest Tradeshow Booth: SSUR
Showing off a fictional (and bloody) drug cartel scene instead of the new collection was a risky choice, but it definitely set SSUR apart from the rest of the brands at tradeshows this month.
Trend We Wish Would Go Away: Man Skirts
We don't even know how this became a thing, but we wrote about it. Guess it was just the perfect storm of high-fashion designers, Kanye's kilts, and street goths.
