I always envision kids living in Cold War era Russia walking around decrepit cities made of concrete slabs in their Reeboks for some reason. I'm sure this is because I have been indoctrinated by the media to think that Russia is some awful place where the government decides what you can wear. No offense, Reebok. Anyway, the president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, actually just debuted the new "socialist sneaker" inspired by Hugo Chavéz.

It's basically a Chuck Taylor or a PF Flyer done up in red as young supporters of Chavéz years ago would wear similar styles to show their allegiance. You can see a snippet of the speech Maduro made to introduce the kicks above. No one is actually sure whether these are going to be available or not, but if red sneaker hype continues to live on, think of the resale value if you could get for a pair of these. I mean, Venezulea exclusive? Goddamn, talk about fucking rare. Actually, wait, reselling these would probably go against socialist values, right? I'm not sure. I didn't pay attention in social studies.
