Meet The Collaborators Behind MGD’s Upcoming Capsule Collection

Next month the MGD Design Lab is releasing a capsule collection in collaboration with streetwear aficionado Jeff Staple. The June 2019 drop of unisex gear is a surprisingly sleek mix in keeping with MGD's black and gold aesthetic, with detailed consideration given to the utility, the fit, the feel and, of course, the look.

The streetwear drop includes a classic-fit long-sleeve tee, a layer-worthy crewneck sweatshirt, a cozy pull-over hoodie, a waterproof anorak-inspired pull-over jacket, a slick slim-fit track pant and a summer-worthy bandana. Sizes run XS–XL across each unisex item.

The concept for the collection of versatile gear is “Why be one in a million when you can be one of none?”

Does that pique your curiosity? It did ours…which is why we’ve dug a little deeper into the upcoming Canadian collaboration to get the scoop.

The range is definitely worth checking out—MGD ensured that by teaming up with Jeff Staple, who curated the limited-edition six-piece collection.

Staple, the founder of Staple Design and Pigeon, started his brand just over 20 years ago, when streetwear wasn’t even really an industry. He’s been at the forefront of street culture since the late ’90s, and today is one of the most influential minds in design.

“I’ve been going with my gut for the last two decades, so I’m not going to stop now,” he says.

Speaking of his involvement with the upcoming collaboration, the streetwear aficionado says: “I’ve always been a fan of graffiti, and I opted for the next best canvas [with this collection]. Thousands of people every day are seeing my artwork.”

One Of Toronto’s Best Young Photographers

Another notable name to collaborate on MGD’s upcoming is one of Toronto best young photographers. Elie Kimbembe (previously and infamously known as Visionelie) has been making moves on the international stage ever since he shot the lookbook for The Weeknd’s XO clothing line.  After that, the Toronto-based photographer honed his craft to display more reflection and emotion; he has amassed a massive Instagram following whom he inspires with his self-made can-do attitude.

“I always make sure that I’m making something original by focusing on myself, on my own story,” says Kimbembe.  “You know yourself better than anybody else. So…people’s opinions don’t really matter.”
