Director Wes Anderson is a true auteur. Every aspect of his films is filtered through his unique eye: camera angles, soundtrack, and of course, clothes. Sure, his films may focus more on familial dysfunction, broken hearts, and crippling emotional issues, but hey, the guy can also make a bunch of talking animals look pretty dapper.

With Moonrise Kingdom hitting theaters tomorrow, we began to dig back into the director's catalog, and found ourselves comparing each character's steez. So foregoing obvious character flaws and amount of screen time, we took a look at the gents that are simply the best dressed. All we know about Walt Bishop so far is that he's played by Bill Murray and is not afraid to rock a madras suit as separates. That alone grants him a spot on this list.

Film:The Darjeeling Limited

Portrayed by: Waris Ahluwalia

The ever-so-stylish Waris Ahluwalia is often seen rocking the hell out of a turban, putting it in the context of modern outfits, as seen in The Life Aquatic, but his role in The Darjeeling Limited had him rocking traditional Indian garb like Nehru-collared jackets, and it looked really ill.

Who wears short shorts? Klaus wears short shorts. And damn, does he wear them well. The German member of Steve Zissou's team was often the source of tension-breaking comic relief and was also really lovable. He also had super rare hi-top versions of the fictional Team Zissou adidas kicks that were featured in the film.

Owen Wilson's bumbling crook is portrayed as a wannabe who thinks he has the chutzpah to be a big shot. He dresses accordingly, in white pants and a loud, printed shirt. Not exactly the type of garb you'd rock if you were trying to remain insonspicuous. Regardless, Dignan does it with gusto, and he even rocks prison togs with class.

Of all the Whitman brothers, Peter definitely outdresses his siblings. Part of that may have to do with the fact that a lot of his premium accessories once belonged to their father, but on the other hand, Owen Wilson's Francis has a head covered in bandages, while Jason Schwartzman's Jack has a pretty creepy mustache. Yeah... we're gonna stick with Peter as the clear winner here.

It seems the Baumer never left the late '70s. Not that it's a bad thing—we kind of like his uniform of a khaki suit, tipped polo, omnipresent headband, and sunglasses. When everyone inevitably starts rocking sweatbands with suits, it'll be because of this guy.

He can sing and play the hell out of Portuguese covers of David Bowie songs, but Pelé dos Santos also had his casual nautical game on lock. While main man Steve Zissou merely designated the blue uniforms that would be worn on his vessel, Pelé really emphasized how sometimes clothes just look better on certain people. You can't tell us the paunchy Steve Zissou or whitebread Ned Plimpton wore the uniform better, because they didn't.

Before saving Latin, Max Fischer saved the raspberry beret. For years, he's been providing subversive inspiration for anyone who's ever wanted to punch up their school uniform. And even when he doesn't have to rock a blue blazer and crest tie, he keeps it super luxe in a green velvet suit and scarf, or white tuxedos.

Debilitating coke problem aside, Eli Cash just looked cool as hell. Sure, he was pretty much a cowboy, but you can't say that his fringed leather jacket was absolutely wack. He definitely owned his look.

The only character that PETA will let wear fur (it's his own, after all), Mr. Fox also gets away with breaking certain style rules by showing he's definitely mastered the art of dressing himself. It's a trip when you discover that underneath the double-breasted corduroy suit, he's rocking a short-sleeve shirt with a tie. No real person could do that and still look cool, but when Mr. Fox does it, he gets a pass. In fact, his style was so great that department store Bergdorf Goodman fashioned their windows after it.
