Hola! It's ya boy Gucci Me$$iah and I have a soft spot in my heart for the wave-producing nylon headpieces you may know by the street name "durag." Since durags are back on the come up, I'm here to share 7 helpful tips you'll need before you dive in.
Gucci Messiah aka Max Henry is an Internet all-star, durag enthusiast and critic of anything somewhat popular living in Chester County, PA. You can follow him on Twitter here.

Start Off Simple
If you’re just getting into the rag game, don’t go too wild. Grab one of the base colors (black or white). These can match with any fitted, throwback jersey, and Air Force 1 in existence. You can usually find these at either a farmer’s market or any gas station in an urban area. If neither of these work, try a beauty supply store.

Putting Dat Shit On
When you remove the durag from its high quality packaging, you may be somewhat perplexed by this nylon cloth with two strings at the end. But don’t worry, placing the rag on the dome is quite easy. You put it on your head, grab the two strings and tie them together like a shoelace, pull the cape out, and KAZAM! You’ll be slaying vagina in no time.

What Color Should I Rock?
After learning to apply the durag, you may feel like a kid who just graduated high school. But don't get too gassed because you have only overcame an infinitesimal step on the staircase of becoming a durag master. A much larger, crucial step in this equation is the decision you're gonna be making every morning regarding what color rag you'll rock wit that day. Like I said before, white and black go with anything, but you have to consider what's most appropriate for the particular occasion at hand. Say you’re going to the racetrack, big playa gonna bet on some horses. In this scenario I recommend wearing a black durag. Black is lowkey, but still shows that you're not somebody to be fucked with and that you're ready to work wit da work. A white durag, on the other hand, is good for casual occasions such as a jog or a family photoshoot on the beach or even some formal occasions like prom—it shows class and formality, but also looks gangster as fuck.

Expand Your Durag Color Palette
Once you've mastered the white and black durags, you have a whole other world to take on in terms of durags. For starters, you got your solid colors: blue, red, green, etc. There’s even purple for you Texas trillas and pink for you Lil B Bitch Mob fans. If you’re from the NYC area, you may even encounter two tone durags! Now, these get very tricky for outfit coordination, but you'll get there eventually with enough practice. For those who are deep in the durag field, there are even patterned rags that come in camo, flames, American flag, you name it. And of course there's the money print durag (S/O A$AP Twelvyy).

What Do I Wear It With?
This is a very vital question if you're looking to become a durag fashionista. Really, durags can be worn with anything. It's the color coordination that's key. If you're rocking your red Pelle Pelle swim trunks, you obviously wouldn't wear a blue durag. You'd be set trippin', cuz. Wearing a simple outfit, say, a plain white tall tee and a solid pair of LRG jeans will really bring the durag to life. The human eye is naturally attracted to the durag, and you want to keep it there. The all white everything fit with the white durag is always a good choice too, as you can clearly see ya boy above, stuntin' in front of da whip.

Hats?
A big part the durag culture are the complimentary domepieces you gracefully rock over the rag. First and foremost, make sure they color coordinate with each other, as I've already stated. Don't be out here looking like a clown with your green fitted and red durag, looking like a fuckin Christmas tree. Besides that, the choice of hat is all yours, bro god. Remember tho, if you’re rocking a fitted/snapback/5 panel, make sure you tilt it and let the durag shine. If you're rocking a bucket hat or a fedora, just leave that shit straight. You're already being wild innovative. For those winter days, a beanie over the durag is always a good gutta look. Let the durag peek to give off that mid '90s Boot Camp Clik era feel.

Never let your rag box you in. Durags can be an open canvas for you artistic folk out there. You can use a sharpie to mark your gang, draw some stars or even whip up some homemade plaids! Shit's revolutionary. Personally, I drew on one of my white joints and threw some crosses on it and dubbed it the "Traplord Durag" (s/o the Fergenstein!!). Also, to get up with the new tie-dye trend, you can lay it down on your durag! Hippie rags for da whole team!
