Buying new furniture is exciting, but the complicated process of assembling your new purchase is always a burden. Belgian designer Carl de Smet is working to develop a revolutionary concept to alleviate this annoyance, with a smart polymer chair that can be purchased in a compact form then be expanded to its complete shape by supplying it with heat or electricity. Although current versions still need high temperatures to grow into their full form (158 degrees Fahrenheit, to be exact), the final product is anticipated to require lower levels of heat while being sensitive to body temperature.
