From deadly scorpions to pain-inflicting jellyfish and wasps, humans tend to stay clear of all creatures that sting. Well, most humans tend to. Photographer Aaron Ansarov, on the other hand, has allowed his keen fascination for wildlife to take him up close and personal with some the world's most venomous animals for a photo shoot, one that nailed him an exclusive feature in National Geographic. Ansarov spent two years photographing Portuguese man o’ wars, organisms related to jellyfish, of all different colors, shapes, and sizes, that washed up on a local Florida beach. The results are stunning.

His close-up photography captures the menacing creatures in a unique light that showcases their beauty, highlighting their vibrant colors and obscure bead-like tentacles. The photographs ultimately look less like man o’ wars and more like complex abstract paintings. Thanks to Ansarov, we can finally satisfy our curiosity while keeping a safe distance from these sea creatures. See the video below for a closer look at Ansarov’s work.
