The work of Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei, two of the most influential artists of the past 50 years, are coming together for a joint exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne before heading to Pittsburgh, The Guardian reports.
The exhibition will show over 300 works from the two artists, including painting, sculpture, film, publishing, installations, photography and, in the case of online activist Weiwei, social media. Some of Warhol's most iconic pieces, including Campbell's Soup, Electric Chair, and Elvis, will be on display. By presenting the artwork together, the museum intends to explore the similarities between the two artists who have had an indelible effect on pop culture.
Weiwei is a great admirer of Warhol and The Philosophy of Andy Warhol is the first book the Chinese artist when he moved to the U.S. "I believe this is a very interesting and important exhibition and an honor for me to have the opportunity to be exhibited alongside Andy Warhol," he said about the show.
The exhibition runs at the National Gallery starting Dec 11 until April 24, 2016; you can purchase tickets here. The exhibit will go on display at Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum in June of 2016.
