If you have already binge-watched one of the best shows on Netflix, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, then you probably remember comedian Martin Short's appearance in the fourth episode as a plastic surgeon who offers Ellie Kemper's character a quick procedure to make her smile lines go away. The character that Short plays has thin blonde hair and his face is so disfigured from surgery that it affects the way he speaks.
It's funny because of Short's performance and the universally understood stereotype of a celebrity plastic surgeon, but some viewers also recognized the character as a parody of real-life Dermatologist Dr. Fredric Brandt, who was found dead over the weekend in his Miami mansion.
According to the New York Daily News, Brandt's clients included Madonna and American supermodel Stephanie Seymour. The doctor allegedly suffered from depression and is said to have hung himself because of comparisons to the character in Tina Fey's new show.
Brandt once told the New York Times that he considered himself a "pioneer in pushing the limits to see how things work and what the look would be," and that if he could change anything about his career he "might not have used as much Botox, because you don’t want to look quite as frozen."
