Check out 10 Tips and Tricks for Spring Cleaning.

1

Problem: Clutter Clutter Clutter

Solution: We get it, it’s easy to hibernate during the winter months, but spring is the time to get organized dude. Sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, and throw away anything that you don’t need or use anymore. Use stowaway boxes or wicker baskets for your videogames, action figures, and other knick knacks.

Problem: You’re Bored Of Your Bachelor Pad Set Up

Solution: Everything clean and fixed? Now to more serious stuff, redesigning your space.

If you are weary of your living room, just move some furniture around. This is a simple solution and will make your space feel brand new. Just make sure when moving furniture you place two clean folded towels on each end to avoid scuffed floors.

Problem: Your stuff is broken.

Solution: In the process of cleaning, you've noticed a few things have deteriorated over the winter. Perhaps a drawer pull is loose. Or, the most used cabinet door is off tilt.

No problem.

Be the handyman and take this time to fix anything that needs repairing. This means broken cabinets, chairs, or anything else that didn't survive your winter parties. Don't be afraid, basic fixes usually don't require much more than the spin of a screwdriver or a newly placed nail.

Problem: Dust and Grime Are Living On Your Desk

Solution: When moving furniture, you really notice when things are not up to scratch and when it is time to invest some elbow grease in removing grime.

Unfortunately, there isn’t some magical short cut for this one. It’s time to break out the cleaning supplies (or buy some cleaning supplies) and scrub. Scrub until the layers of dirt dissolve and scrub until the beer residue from last weeks party has disappeared. Try Clorox Disinfecting Wipes – they work wonders. And if you have a carpet, don’t hesitate to run the vacuum over it —even places you can’t see.

Problem: Winter Gear Everywhere

Solution: First of all, since we are saying bye to winter, we can say bye Northface and Patagonia gear. That’s right, put those down jackets and beanies in storage or in airtight plastic containers that fit under the bed. The Container Store (as we've already mentioned) has a bunch of sleek storage options. Automatically, this will free up some space (you could also donate clothes you don’t wear anymore as well). Another quick tip: Put some Bounce dryer sheets in your storage containers. This will keep your winter gear fresh until next November.

Problem: Your Room Needs A New Season Smell

Solution: Instead of reaching for the Lysol, try some candles. Think fresh scents like white cotton or lavender. Glade candles are cheap and work great, but if you’re looking for something a little more upscale try Valuspa candles and room diffusers in scents like Crisp Champagne.

6

Problem: Mildew and Moisture In The Bathroom

Solution: Yes, spring cleaning means also cleaning your shower and toilet. No one wants to deal with the nasty effects of mildew, so prevent the buildup before it even starts. Use a dehumidifier and fan to reduce dampness, and don’t bunch up wet towels. Also try putting an incandescent light bulb in your closet to dry the air to prevent that musty smell.

Problem: Dark Winter Bedding Is Dragging You Down

Solution: It’s time to give your bed a makeover. Swap your dark, heavy winter bedding for a lighter, crisper set. Think clean white sheets, and if you’re not diggin’ the white, try a neutral tone like beige. Your (new) room will feel like an all inclusive hotel suite.

Head to The Company Store for high quality options.

Problem: Air Quality Sucks

Solution: Switch the direction of your ceiling fan. When your fan runs clockwise it creates an upward draft, which redistributes the warm air, keeping your room warm. However, most fans have a switch to adjust the rotation, so switch it to a counterclockwise spin to give yourself a pleasant breeze. While dealing with the fan, it might be nice to dust fan blades with a cleaning cloth.

Problem: Your Crib Is Stuffy

Solution: Add some greenery. Some houseplants like English ivy, peace lilies, and rubber plants actually clean the air! That’s right. Plus they look and smell good too! After going through all the trouble to spring clean, this finishing step will aid in keeping your place fresh through summer.
