Holding truth to power has been a notion most widely discussed following the results of the 2016 election, and now you can wear it on a T-shirt.
Sacai has unveiled their latest collaboration with The New York Times in an effort to fight fake news and to highlight the vital role independent journalism plays within a just media environment.
First revealed at Sacai's Fall 2018 menswear runway, the collection—aptly titled as the "Truth" collaboration—includes black and white T-shirts and hoodies emblazoned with the slogan "Truth. It's more important now than ever" across the front. Each item features a plethora of mantras of truth on the back, including phrases such as, "The truth is worth defending" and "The truth is rarely obvious." The women's tee features a cropped length and side zipper detailing, while the unisex hoodies are cut to a raglan fit, elevating each basic style to Sacai's standards.
Chitose Abe, the creative director of Sacai, used The New York Time's maxim as a means of exploring what the definition of truth has become, a disputed idea that has become more difficult to reconcile as the public's distrust of the media has increased.
The Sacai x The New York Times collaboration is available at Saks Fifth Avenue and other Sacai stores and retailers now.
