Social media makes it possible to document life's most interesting moments, but sharing a photo of a homeless person reading your magazine isn't a great idea. Vogue style-editor-at-large and German princess, Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis, had a cringe-worthy Instagram moment when she posted a picture of a homeless woman reading an old issue of the fashion magazine. She went on to caption the picture with “Paris is full of surprises ... and @voguemagazine readers even in unexpected corners.”
Obviously people weren’t happy with the derogatory message the picture was sending, but von Thurn und Taxis didn’t seem to understand how it was offensive. She wrote in the comments, "Why cruel? The person to me is as dignified as anyone else!" She has since issued an apology via the photo-sharing app. She posted a scenic Paris shot with a caption that read, “I wanted to extend my sincerest apologies for the offense my post has caused," after deleting the original post from her account.
The fashion world seems to have an undying infatuation with homelessness, recreating the so-called "style" in editorials and on the runway. But, hopefully sharing photos of destitute people reading fashion magazines doesn't become the next trend.
