If you've ever wondered how The Legendary Roots Crew manages to maintain a crisp, well-groomed aesthetic (and more specifically, how Questlove’s iconic afro came to be), it all comes down to one individual: Faheem Alexander.

Since his first run-in with lead MC Black Thought in his native Philadelphia in 1997, Alexander has long been the official barber for The Roots and has blessed many other notable names in the entertainment industry with the perfect shape-up. When he’s not holding it down on the set of The Tonight Show in NYC, you can find the talented beard craftsman at his Philly barbershop, Faheem’s Hands of Precision, chopping it up (literally) with the local community.

Alexander’s talented skill set and his close affiliation with The Roots have taken him from South Street Philly to places all around the globe. Today, in addition to his shop, he’s the proud owner of his own line of custom branded shears, beard moisturizing oil, and has even had his name featured in various Roots Crew album credits. Despite the success, Alexander has stayed grounded and has kept the focus on what got him to this point in the first place: his hands of precision.

Bevel recently got a chance to sit down with the legendary barber and pioneer of the iconic Philly Beard, as well as the equally legendary Questlove to get some insight into their personal and professional relationship, and the role grooming plays in their respective lives. Check out the interview here.
