This season's MAN runway show welcomed the newcomers Liam Hodges and Nicomende Talavera who showed their spring/summer 2015 collections alongside veteran Bobby Abley.
The show opened with Talavera, a fashion darling in the making who presented a standout collection that showcased a masterful hold on layering, proportion, and mixing fabrics and patterns. Inspired by some of Louise Bourgois' earlier works and the Muslim community in the southwest area of London where he's from, Talavera showed that he has an original voice in menswear that is both editorial and commercially friendly.
Nicomede was followed by Liam Hodges, a true British bloke who presented a collection inspired by Kiboo Kidt, a group of anti-military scouts from London. The influences were clear in the color palette and the styling cues. The details that stand out in person are the 3-D feather accents and the fact that his prints are actually an intricate hand woven jacquard that he created with another young designer, a testament to Hodges being so dedicate to his vision that he is inclusive of other emerging talents.
The show was closed by Bobby Abley, who has shown with MAN for three seasons now. This collection was clearly his strongest and most cohesive to date. Abley is always inspired by and connected to Disney characters and this season he used Ariel from The Little Mermaid loosely to present a collection that had a beach/skate vibe which hits all of the trends at the moment, as well as setting a few new ones that we're already looking forward to for next year.
