This past Friday, Grammy-nominated Trey Songz held a private event at the Versace flagship store in New York City benefiting his Angels With Heart Foundation. Those in attendance—including Fabolous and the beautiful Adrienne Bailon—were invited to shop Versace's spring/summer 2014 collection.
For those who don't know, Angels with Hearts foundation is Trigga Trey's charity that he founded in 2010 to help give back to make a difference in communities.
But what's the connection between the Angels with Hearts Foundation and Italian fashion house? It turns out, Versace is the singer's favorite brand. Dressed in head-to-toe Versace, Songz told us about his love for Donatella's designs, his preferred $1,800 jeans, what other brands he's rocking right now, and how to impress women.
So what is the connection between Versace and your foundation, Angels With Heart?
Well, Versace has always been a brand that I've loved, a brand that has supported me. I've been wearing Versace for so long, I come in here and I have friends here, and they really support what it is that I do. Our partnership has been great. So, when they learned about what I was doing with my Angels With Heart Foundation, we came up with the idea to have an event here. The beautiful thing about it is that people who were on my guest list, or were invited by me, that spend money in this store from the dates of Nov. 18 to Nov 25, Versace is giving 10 percent of what they spend to my foundation. That's a beautiful thing.
And we wanted to do something out of the box, something sexy and chic, but at the same time something that felt natural and real.
Is it safe to say then that Versace is one of your favorite brands?
Oh yeah, most definitely.
Do you have a favorite Versace piece that you own?
Then y'all gon' be looking at my jeans, like, "He got those jeans on again. He got them on again."
But you can wear jeans often, right?
Oh, of course. But I be bustin' them up.
I have a pair that have leather stitching in the back, and they're so comfortable. I got a pair I actually have never seen anybody wear. They're not jeans, they're not leather, and they have staples on the side all the way down. Amazing.
How much did those cost?
I think they were $1,800.
What other brands, besides Versace, do you like?
Other brands I like besides Versace... Tom Ford makes incredible suits. I love the glasses as well. I have a plethora of Tom Ford shades. Who else do I like? Dolce & Gabbana, Dior Homme.
So the real classics?
Right, yeah. And don't get me wrong, I love a good pair of Levi's as well, you know what I mean? And I love Calvin Klein underwear. That's the only kind of underwear I wear.
How would you describe your style now?
I would say we grow with the times and we grow with our maturity level as well. I'm wearing my clothes a little more like how they're supposed to be worn, having a little more fun with it. And I have a lot more money now too, so I can dress a little nicer than I used to be able to.
You're a ladies' man. Any advice to other guys who want to impress women?
As far as dressing is concerned, I would say to dress well. To be clean, to smell good, have your hands clean, have your nails clean. Make sure your outfit is well put-together, and make sure it suits you. Make sure you're not outside of the box, trying to do something that doesn't feel good.
