French photographer Thierry Cohen created the Darkened Cities project to articulate his vision of world cities without power. The cityscapes and skylines are intentionally recognizable, showing San Francisco, New York City, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, and more. His technique has been to capture the Milky Way above these cities and use the day to night effect in Photoshop to show what they might look like without light, similar to Iwan Baan's real-life image of half-lit Manhattan after Hurricane Sandy.
