Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having one hell of a year. After turning heads at the 2023 Met Gala, the 24-year-old guard landed on the All-NBA First Team along with league MVP Joel Embiid.
Gilgeous-Alexander took to Instagram to celebrate his win.
“They used to make jokes and say the team I’m on’s the worst. Now I wake up & the team I’m on is First,” he wrote.
Luguentz Dort also took the time to wish his Canadian teammate congratulations on the win with an Instagram story.
“First team!!” he wrote.
Gilgeous-Alexander might have been placed on the most elite All-NBA team, but other Canadian players impressed as well.
Montreal-born player Bennedict Mathurin made it to the All-Rookie First Team while the infamous Dillon Brooks landed a spot on the All-Defensive Second Team.
Also on the All-Defensive Second Team is Toronto Raptors wing O.G. Anunoby, whose appearance marks the first time he’s been voted into either team.
The obvious next step for Gilgeous-Alexander would be to win an MVP and his road to it might come soon. This year, he received 46 total points for the award, falling vastly behind Embiid’s 915, but as the Oklahoma City Thunder improve, it certainly wouldn’t be an impossibility.
