The Beijing Motor Show is approaching later this month, and already rumors are swirling that BMW will arrive with a new range-topping model – the 9-Series. BMW is hushed on the details, but whispers in the night hint that the 9-Series is designed to rival the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe concept and will ride on an enlarged version of the next-gen 7-Series platform.
Outside, expect the car to integrate cues from the 2013 Pininfarina-designed Gran Lusso Concept, but on the inside sources indicate that it will preview the interior of the next 7-Series. Regardless, expect a wealth of leather and high-quality aluminum, wood, and maybe even a hint of carbon fiber.
Power is derived from an existing BMW eight- or twelve-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission, which will likely make this concept fully functional. And a good thing too, the German magazine Auto, Motor und Sport suggest that the 9-Series could find itself in dealerships by as early as 2016.
