The Most Exciting Car Debuts of 2013 (So Far)

While the new-look Range Rover had already debuted, showing off the exciting styling, the vehicle people really want when talking about a Range Rover is the Sport. This guy debuted in New York City with a slimmer waist line (800 pounds lighter) and a 340hp supercharged V6 instead of the usual V8.

Detroit was the spot for the entire rebranding launch for Infiniti, picking the Q50 to lead the way. This was the first car launched with Johan de Nysschen, the new head of Infiniti global operations, in the mix.

The GT3 is the top of the top in the performance division for the 911. This is a fierce road-ready car that logged a sub-7 minute 30 second lap time at the Nürburgring. This is also the 50th anniversary of the 911, so debut was extra special.

This little bugger had one of the best entrances of the entire year. It can thank Ken Block creating a cloak of mysterious smoke with some tire-burning Gymkhana-like moves for that. These extremely small, powerful little hatches are really gaining attention right now in the U.S., particularly at the low price points that come with the American badges.

The theme of blending a sports car with a coupe is only going to get more popular, and the Gran Coupe is one of the leading cars to do it correctly. It's got four doors, but it's extremely low-slung, taking away from the typical bulkiness of a sedan and giving it an extremely powerful vibe.

The claim on this one is the world's fastest four-seater convertible. How fast? 202 mph. So, you might not want to wear a hat while riding in this one.

The Chevy Volt is pretty good-looking. The ELR is beautiful. Adding a higher lux model with this type of tech is a great move for GM.

Hyundai and Kia, Kia and Hyundai. Two car companies that have come up and legitimately established themselves as key players. And they're not about to get content in any sense of the word. Kia released this concept and the GT Concept, both cars that feature much more aggressive looks than anything else currently in the lineup. And aggression is exactly what this company needs.

Mercedes-Benz gave the entire E-Class line a refreshed look, most notably on the front end. The new LED headlights give it a much more up-to-date look, while the gaping corners of the mouth have an in-your-face, attacking feel. In a luxury sedan segment that always runs the risk of becoming stale and boring, this was a needed update.

Subaru is an important auto comapny on the rise right now, and if this concept is any telling, the cars are about to get much better looking. The new design was just part of the package, as the Viziv also featured a new hybrid setup of a diesel engine that got the front wheels going and two independent electric motors moving the rear.

Dad wants a Corvette. Dad can't get a Corvette because of his children. Chevy introduces the SS, a high-performance, rear-wheel sedan. Dad buys SS. Dad scares the shit out of his children with crazy burnouts as payback for getting in the way of his Corvette dreams.

Images of this wildly designed supercar have been circulating since last year, but it made its first in-the-flesh debut this year at the Shanghai Motor Show. It's based on a Megane Trophy race car with a 400-hp Nissan VQ V6 and has cues from the original Renault A110.

There has been so much excitement and desire, make that need, for this juiced-up XK that Jaguar actually is rumored to be expanding the run (even though it's still only around 50). The R-S GT is a Jaguar coupe with a 5.0L V8 that puts out 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque. Jag tuned the suspension and added carbon fiber and a giant wing to make this street-legal beast even more specialized.

Before the CTS was lost in all the attention that was being given to the awesome new ATS, XTS and ELR, it came roaring back sporting Cadillac's sultry new design language. The long front end and lines that shoot front the edgy front lights throughout the car complete the lineup sedan lineup for Cadillac. Now we wait for the Escalade.

Yeah. Those are a Hyundais. We're packaging them together partially because their purpose is to foretell what's coming for Hyundai, but also because we didnt' want to cut the list any of the vehicles we have on this list. The HND-9 concept has a 3.3L turbocharged GDi engine and 8-speed automatic transmission and is one of the sexiest vehicles we've seen all year. The HCD-14 is also quite stunning, inside and out, and has 5.0L Tau V8 on a rear-wheel platform. If you can't tell, we're hyped for the future of Korean cars.

The WRX has a lot to live up to, as its Subaru's main source of power and sport. Unfortunately, spy shots have shown that the looks will probably be much more tame than the sexy vehicle you see above.

The CLA45 AMG and A45 AMG (in Europe) create an entirely new lane for Mercedes-Benz. We had the chance to drive the CLA45 (test drive coming soon), and we were definitely impressed with the 355hp 2.0L engine's performance. The Germans are going to sell a ton of these, further planting Mercedes-Benz in the U.S. market.

Nobody saw this guy coming. Everybody knew that we were getting a refreshed version of the Camaro, but a fully track-focused version was not on the radar. A 427 LS7 dry-sump, 7.0L V8 that is estimated at 500 horses and 470 lb.-ft. of torque is just the start. It also weighs 300 lbs. less than the ZL1, has a revised chassis, and stops on enormous Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes.

Everybody and their grandmother is excited about Alfa's presence coming to America. The miniature supercar is extremely light, will be sub-five seconds quick, and is, for the most part, a good-looking vehicle.

This is a personal favorite of mine. It's one of the most breath-taking cars I've seen at any event this year. Something about the fastback, emphasized by the awesome two-tone color scheme, that really drew my eyes (and heart). The luxury remains with things like a star-lit headliner and full wood panels on the door, but the blood in this thing is pure sport.

The Impala, the SS, the Camaro, and Corvette are all part of a movement for Chevy, a movement that is racing forward and pulling carefully selected bits of its past with it. The Stingray name reaches back to its heritage, while entirely new sculptures give it its own personality. People will get over the taillights. This thing is a winner.

It's really hard to get over this dumbass name ... until you actually see the LaFerrari. It's hawkish and smooth at the same time, draped over a 800hp, mid-mounted, direct injection, 6.3L V12 engine that's supplemented by a 163hp electric motor. The 963hp HY-KERS system delivers a 0-62 time in less than 3.0 seconds and a 0-124 time in less than 7.0 seconds. An F1 dual-clutch gearbox and an all-carbon fiber monocoque complete the hypercar package.

Jab one of a two-part Lamborghini knockout, the Veneno is pure spectacle. Unlike the P1 and the LaFerrari this car is not a hybrid. Instead, the Aventador-based car has a 750hp, 6.5L, 12-cylinder engine that will hit up to 220 mph. Only THREE of these cars were produced.

Not only did the P1 have the pressure of living up to the auto God, the F1, but it had to compete with the Lamborghini Veneno, the Ferrari LaFerrari, and other supercar debuts, as well. With incredible hybrid performance numbers, fantastic looks, and a name that doesn't sound like a French bro made it up, we think it handled itself well.

As far as shock value goes, it doesn't really get more ridiculously crazy than the Egoista. The surprise hit at Lamborghini's 50th anniversary celebration and launched a furious fit of discussion about whether or not this car is completely idiotic or if the self-absorbed nature is automotive genius. We leaned toward the latter.
