The X-1 was possibly the most head-shaking, eye-bulging, and intriguing releases of 2012. Designed by 34-year-old Hong Yeo, who came right out of of school at the World College of Art in London, the X-1 was a commissioned one-of-one supercar that shows a 100 percent unique use of the MP4-12C chassis.

Millionaires forced Nissan to produced a 25 examples of this 545hp crossover that's got a transplanted GT-R engine in it. It'll also cost you a whopping $600,000, which might be worth the enjoyment of shredding Ferraris and Mercedes-Benzes.

The i8 hybrid is an example of design innovation at its best. The gorgeous BMW maintains stylish appeal, while breaking into a mainstream hybrid supercar market, with a TwinPower turbo engine that will still deliver a combined 87 mpg.

With an exterior designed by Pininfarina, an interior shaped by Vilner, and four individual-wheel 92kW motors running the power, the Rimac Concept_One is about as luxurious as its $980,000 sticker suggests. The Croation company announced after the Top Marques show in Monaco this year that 88 of these 1,088-horsepower beasts will be created. The Concept_One, which really isn't a "concept" anymore, can get up to 372 miles on a single charge, and hits 62 mph in a neck-jerking 2.8 seconds.

The McLaren P1 is set to be the biggest debut of the year in 2013. Ready to succeed, but certainly not follow or replace, the F1, the P1 has extremely flowing, radical design, featuring a giant wing, bulging honeycomb taillights, and those signature McLaren tick eyes. Though the final design has yet to be released, the above picture is about as close to the real deal as a concept can get. Initial numbers were $1.56 million and 960 horsepower.
