New England Patriots' safety Duron Harmon was detained by Costa Rican officials and denied entry into the country Friday after reportedly trying to bring in two ounces of marijuana stashed inside his luggage. He was then reportedly sent back to the U.S.

Per a report by Carlos Láscarez of Costa Rica’s La Nación, officers of the Fiscal Control Police apprehended Harmon at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time. The officers confirmed discovering 58 grams of marijuana, a THC confection, four glass containers filled with compressed marijuana and three pipettes containing marijuana oil.

It’s unclear if Costa Rican officials have charged Harmon, and while he didn’t formally admit any guilt, Harmon offered a somewhat nebulous apology via Instagram on Saturday.

“I would like to extend my deepest regrets and sincerest apologies to Patriots fans, my teammates, my coaches, the Krafts and the NFL,” Harmon’s post read in part. “Friday does not represent who I am or the person I strive to be.”

Harmon’s bust pales in comparison to former Patriot Chandler Jones’ 2016 incident, which was rumored to be the result of Jones ingesting some synthetic weed. Harmon may face serious disciplinary action from a team that preaches the ethos of “The Patriot Way” and from a league commissioner notorious for levying suspensions related to a vague personal conduct policy.

Per the Boston Globe, marijuana is on the NFL’s banned substances list and could lead to Harmon being fined and/or suspended.

In a statement obtained by the Globe, a Patriots spokesperson confirmed the organization is aware of the matter and “seeking to gain more information.”
