When the official MLB Instagram asked users to drop their boldest NL Central predictions, first baseman and Canadian legend Joey Votto went straight to left field offering a world-changing, oddly specific sci-fi-laden prediction that sees the Cincinnati Reds winning the World Series with the help of extraterrestrials.

“Extra terrestrials arrive on earth, April 15th. The 12-2 Reds and the rest of the planet learn from, communicate with, and befriend our alien friends,” Votto wrote in the comments. “This process takes 5 months. Play resumes in October. The Reds sweep the playoffs and are World Series champs. Side note: the aliens ask if I would like to accompany them on their ship back to their plant. I oblige. Never to be seen again.”

The Reds, in their own comment, made sure to agree with Votto’s intergalactic prediction.

Given that the Reds finished 62-100 in 2022, it’s only reasonable to believe that alien interference could help them turn their 2023 season into an astounding success.

In a recent piece for The Athletic, Votto responded to a 2021 segment describing an oral history of Votto’s career in MLB.

“My routine every day is to compete, then go home, play chess and listen to old Norm Macdonald and old David Letterman, have a sleeve of saltines and then go to sleep. I’m dead-ass serious. That’s my life routine from basically spring training on,” Votto explained.

MLB is currently in spring training. Opening Day 2023 for all 30 teams is scheduled for Mar. 30.
