Carson Brière, Mercyhurst College hockey player and son of Flyers general manager Daniel Brière, has apologized for pushing a person’s wheelchair down a flight of stairs last weekend.

“I am deeply sorry for my behavior on Saturday. There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment,” Carson Brière wrote in a statement.

Daniel Brière also issued a statement admonishing his son’s actions.

“I was shocked to see Carson’s actions in that video that was shared on social media yesterday,” Daniel Brière wrote. “They are inexcusable and run completely counter to our family’s values on treating people with respect. Carson is very sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior.”

A Twitter user named Julia Zukowski originally posted the video on the social media platform tagging his school, Mercyhurst University, and called Carson Brière out by name.

Zukowski replied to her own tweet stating the chair belonged to someone who had to be carried downstairs to use the bathrooms.

The chair was left on top of the stairs because she physically had to be carried down to use the restrooms. Which are only located downstairs

Zukowski further added that the person who owned the wheelchair would like to keep their anonymity until they pursue legal action.

I do personally know the person who owns the wheelchair. They would like to remain anonymously until they can take legal action. I would never use this opportunity to scam anyone in anyway.

The University issued a statement shortly after the video made its way online.

“Late this afternoon, Mercyhurst University became aware of a disturbing video in which one of our student-athletes is seen pushing an unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of stairs at a local establishment. Our Office of Student Conduct and Department of Police and Safety are investigating,” the University tweeted.

Brière previously ran into trouble at Arizona State University, where he was kicked out for violating team rules.

Brière addressed his dismissal saying, “Too much partying, that’s probably the best way to put it.”
