Serena Williams welcomed a baby girl into the world yesterday, and everyone from her sister, Venus, to tennis legends and her celebrity friends are taking to social media to congratulate her and her fiancée, Reddit co-founder Alex Ohanian, on the new addition to their family.
ESPN caught up with Venus at the U.S. Open and asked her how she felt about becoming an aunt.
“Words can’t describe,” Venus said, in the video above.
Beyoncé posted a beautiful photo on her Instagram. The two are good friends; Serena featured prominently in Beyoncé’s “Sorry” music video off Lemonade (that TWERKING tho) and also made an appearance onstage at the last night of Beyoncé’s Formation Tour in October 2016.
Ciara, a good friend of the tennis star, congratulated Serena and her fiancée on their new baby girl on Twitter.
Congratulations to my girl @SerenaWilliams & Alex Ohanian on your new baby girl! So happy for you guys! ❤️
One of the best messages was from Serena’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, who had a lot of nice things to say… but also reminded her that she has to get back on the court soon.
Congratulations @SerenaWilliams for your baby girl. I am so happy for you and I feel your emotion. Recover well & enjoy without limitation.
Congratulations @alexisohanian for your baby girl. I have 3 daughters & each time it is the same incredible journey. I am happy for you.
Btw @serenawilliams I wish you a speedy recovery... we have a lot of work ahead of us.
Of course Serena’s news sparked a lot of happiness in the tennis world, with legends like Rafael Nadal and Billie Jean King taking to Twitter to say a few kind words.
Congrats Serena!!! So much joy for you!!! https://t.co/u4edTrqIbB
Talk show host Wendy Williams came in hot with a perfectly placed Reddit pun.
You Reddit here first! Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian had their baby. Congratulations! pic.twitter.com/EGvBQe8Yeq
Even Delta Air Lines tried to get in on the fun. Although the effort is certainly appreciated—note that the flight is at Gate 23, the same number of Grand Slams Serena has won—this is one of the weirdest ways to welcome a child into the world. Try again later, Delta.
