Earlier today, a report surfaced claiming DeMarcus Cousinscursed out head coach George Karl in front of his teammates following the Sacramento Kings' 106-88 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Monday. Prior to their contest against the Detroit Pistons tonight, Cousins addressed the matter, apologizing for his outburst.
“It is no secret that we are all frustrated with losing — me more than anyone. I let my frustrations get the best of me in the locker room after the San Antonio loss — that is my bad. For the record, my frustration is not about any one person or player or coach. There is no one person to blame. All of us are accountable. My frustration is that we are 1-7 simple as that.”
According to The Sacramento Bee, this verbal altercation was just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what is going on behind the scenes in the Kings organization. It is being reported that Karl wanted to Cousins suspended two games for his actions, however, Vlade Divac put a halt on that move because George didn't have the power to take such action and the Kings general manager wasn't going to allow it to happen.
Now, USA TODAY is reporting the Kings could fire Karl as soon as this week, if the team doesn't turn things around following a dismal 1-7 start to the season.
In the months leading up to the 2015-16 campaign, it was clear that Cousins and Karl were going to bump heads often. No one should be shocked right now.
