If there was ever a day to discourage future generations from participating in the game of football, it was today. There were injuries galore in the NFL, from Steve Smith, Sr.tearing his Achilles to Reggie Bushtearing his ACL to Ricardo Lockette getting knocked out cold by a block.

It's days like today that again bring up the conversation of whether or not football can make it for the long haul, considering how knowingly dangerous its become. So of course, someone decided to ask LeBron James, who has mentioned before that he has no plans of letting his two sons participate in football, about it, despite having played football in high school himself.

James had a new answer, and it wasn't exactly what we expected.

Reporter asked LeBron why he won't let his sons play football even though he did. Bron: "I needed a way out (of poverty). My kids don’t."

It's an interesting perspective as to why kids get involved in football in the first place. It's not always because of their love for the sport and its physicality. Sometimes, it's simply an activity to keep them from getting in trouble, especially in areas of whatever city they may live in that are immersed in poverty, and a way to find success in life that will allow them to eventually leave that poverty for greener pastures. That was the case for James growing up in Akron, Ohio, but is certainly no longer the case for his children.

Just another piece of a very complex argument that is only going to get louder the more days we have like today.
