EV Battery with Liquid Electrodes Could Be Cheaper, Last Longer

We're always on the lookout for new developments to make electric car batteries cheaper and/or more efficient because, so far, those are the major two things standing in the way of electric cars becoming accessible and desirable to mass consumers. This battery in development can help solve both of those problems.

Research into batteries with liquid electrodes, aka "rechargeable fuel" is going down at the Argonne National Laboratory and Illinois Institute of Technology. The technology could allow electric cars to last 500 miles on a single charge. To re-juice the battery could be charged or filled up with new fuel in just a few minutes.

The research is still in its early phases, but the ARPA-E, a government agency that supports advanced energy technologies, has deemed the batteries promising. That isn't just talk. The agency is funding the institutions mentioned above and two more working on the batteries—National Renewable Energy Laboratory and 24M, a spinoff of MIT.
