Walt Frazier Speculates About Carmelo Anthony Trade: "Melo Knows That His Days Are Numbered"

Melo may want out of New York, according to the former Knicks legend.

As a good friend of New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony, and a former Knick himself, NBA legend Walt Frazier likely knows a thing or two about the psyche of Madison Square Garden's long bright spot (no, not JD & The Straight Shot).

Unfortunately, Knicks fans may not be happy to hear what Frazier thinks about Carmelo's future in the Big Apple.

The Hall of Fame guard (and winner of two, count 'em, two NBA titles with the Knickerbockers) recently spoke with ESPN's Ian Begley about the team, and offered a candid view on Melo's career going forward:

Q: The Knicks drafted Kristaps Porzingis, a guy who is a couple years away from being able to help you win night in and night out. Then there's Carmelo Anthony, who is 31 and here for another four years. How does he fit in because it seems like they are looking at a future that might not fit within his window?

For what it's worth, Carmelo has spoken out in support of Porzingis since the draft. However, the comments about his age are irrefutable. Melo is old and getting older, and as the clocks ticks, it's hard to believe that he won't start angling for ways to get on a team where he could expect a meaningful playoff run to take place (unless Phil Jackson starts working some miracles, that is).

Whatever the case, Melo has a whale of a contract that some team would have to be willing to saddle, as well as an injury history that might scare off other squads. Even if he does want to escape from New York, is he past the point of no return?
