As the first openly gay man to play in an American professional sports league, LA Galaxy defender Robbie Rogers has become an icon for aspiring LGBTQ athletes across the country.
As a result of his stardom and significance, Rogers is now serving as the inspiration for an upcoming comedic television series produced by ABC. The premiere for the series remains unknown, but a name for the show was announced today by the network. According to MLSSoccer.com, the series will be called Men in Shorts.
The show will be shot in a single-camera style, and while Rogers' life will not play directly into the plot of the series, it does tell the story of a up-and-coming soccer star whose homosexuality pushes him to a previously unknown level of fame. The influence is clear.
Rogers will also serve as a producer for the series. It looks like he's ready to get the show on-air.
