On Tuesday evening, the NBA announced the reserves for this year's NBA All-Star Game, which was made up of two backcourt players, three front-court players, and two wildcards per conference. Paul George, Chris Paul, Lou Williams and Andre Drummond were among the more notable snubs and the latter pair did not seem especially thrilled about being excluded from next month's all-star festivities:
Both players have good reason to be disappointed. Williams has been one of the NBA's hottest players in January and is a virtual lock for his second Sixth Man of the Year award. Drummond meanwhile, continues to be one of the league's most dominant big men. Sorry fellas, maybe next year.
As for those who did actually make the cut, the Eastern Conference subs breakdown like this:
And the Western Conference subs can be seen right here:
Last week the league announced the starters, which included all the usual suspects. Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Joel Embiid were voted in from the East, while Stephen Curry, James Harden, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins will represent the West.
Now that the pool of players has been finalized, All-Star captains Curry and James will pick 11 players apiece for their teams in a playground-style draft that unfortunately won't be televised. Instead, the rosters will be revealed on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET on TNT. Hopefully the players with loose lips eventually let slip who was picked last. At least Drummond and Williams will be spared from that potential humiliation.Â
The 2018 NBA All-Star game will take Sunday, Feb. 18 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will air live at 8 p.m. ET on TNT.
