Oakland Raiders Emerge as Favorites to Land Jim Harbaugh

Sorry, Michigan fans. Right now, it looks like Jim Harbaugh will be staying in the Bay Area next year.

Despite a vacancy at the University of Michigan (his alma mater), Jim Harbaugh seems far more likely to be the head coach of the Oakland Raiders next season. A report from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora says that the 49ers’ coach would prefer to stay in the NFL and in the Bay Area, which would kind of limit his options.

Because Harbaugh still has a year left on his contract with the 49ers, a trade would have to be worked out in order for him to swap teams. That would not be an issue, La Canfora says, because Raiders’ owner Mark Davis is enamored enough of the idea of having Harbaugh that he is willing to give up multiple draft picks if necessary to complete a deal.

While the Michigan rumors are going to persist until the Wolverines hire a coach, Harbaugh is reportedly not interested due in part to his close relationship with outgoing coach Brady Hoke. Just don’t tell that to gambling site Sportsbook.ag, which saw the odds on its Harbaugh-to-Michigan prop bet go from 8:1 to 2:1 and caused the site to pull the bet.
