Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is reportedly discussing a plea deal in his Texas child abuse case, and the matter could be resolved as soon as Tuesday.

Sources close to the negotiations tell ESPN that Peterson’s attorneys are working with prosecutors on a deal to resolve his felony charge of reckless or negligent injury to a child. Peterson admitted to whipping his four-year-old son with a “switch,” leaving him with several bruises and cuts, and the running back had also admitted to smoking marijuana prior to his first court appearance.

As for how this would impact Peterson’s NFL career, that remains unclear. He is currently on the commissioner's exempt list, and once the matter is resolved would be subject to discipline from commissioner Roger Goodell. Given the way Peterson has dragged the league’s name through the mud this year, a lengthy suspension is likely.
