If you are a purist or bleed competitiveness as far as sports goes, there are no such thing as a moral victory. Yet in some cases, like Saturday's matchup of Boston College's football team on-field torturing the Howard Bison, it may be best for the contest's victor to show some sense of grace rather than moral turpitude in a landslide victory against a much weaker opponent.
It was a crime for how bad B.C. ripped the Bison's asses off, and served it on a back to them on a maroon-colored platter, scoring 41-0 — by the end of the first quarter. This slaughter was so bad that it basically became worthy of what would be easily considered as a "mercy rule." At halftime, both team's head coaches agreed to shorten the second half by 10 minutes, meaning 5 minutes each off both the third and fourth quarters.
Well, that didn't stop the the Eagles from soaring even higher on the scoreboard, as they ended the contest with a whopping final score of 76-0 ! Pathetically, the Bison only managed to go for a total of 28 rushing attempts for seven yards. Also, they were 2-for-12 passing for four yards.
Life isn't fair, but jeez, wrong is wrong, B.C.! Come on now, you could have let the Bison at least get a touchdown, or even a field goal after Howard cried "UNCLE!" at halftime.
