Yesterday morning we heard reports that Ford was thinking of killing their Falcon Ute. The Ute is only sold in Australia, so why do we care? Well, that takes a bit of explaining. The Ford Falcon Ute is a direct descendant of the Ford Ranchero—a half car, half pick up truck that debuted in 1957 that was such as success, GM had to come out with the Chevrolet El Camino, which went on to dominate the market. No Ford Ranchero, no El Camino.
So, even if we don't get the Falcon Ute here in States, we like knowing that the El Camino's genes still survive somewhere in the world. Luckily, new reports came out saying that the Ute is safe and sound in Fords lineup for a number of years.
