Australia's 2019 Women's World Cup jersey was unveiled in France overnight, and we're happy to confirm, it's a banger.

The instant-classic kit was a milestone release even before we'd seen it, as it marks the first time The Matildas will wear their own strip. In years gone by, our women's football squad has taken to the pitch in the Australian men's jersey for international matches.

The kit was developed by Nike over a three-year period, during which every element of the fit was reconsidered. Several members of the team visited Nike HQ for body scans and to provide feedback. During this process, Nike worked on everything from the waistband on the shorts to the neckline of the jersey, customising everything to best suit the body of a female footballer.

The jersey was designed by Cassie Looker, a veteran Nike designer who recently worked on the landmark Jordan x Paris Saint Germain collab. The striking 90s-inspired design references Melbourne's vibrant graffiti scene and Australia's unique flora.

We'll see the jersey in action during April when the 6th-ranked Matildas take on the USA, before beginning their World Cup campaign with a clash against Italy on June 9. The jerseys will be available to purchase in mens, womens and kids sizes from March 12, but be quick – these will likely move like the famous Nigerian strip in 2018.
