ESPN The Magazine just put together a piece called "Carmelo Anthony Means Business" that takes a closer look into the brand that Carmelo Anthony is trying to build right now. In it, Melo talks at length about his legacy, the fact that he wants to be known for something other than basketball one day, and his love for money. And the one thing you'll take away from the piece—which you can read here—is that Carmelo really, really loves his money.
To prove just how much he loves it, the Knicks star told ESPN The Magazine a story about how someone tried to rob him at gunpoint for $20 when he was 14 and still living in Baltimore. But instead of simply handing over the money, Carmelo "decided he would take his chances and run rather than hand over the cash."
Unfortunately, he doesn't elaborate much on the story, so we don't know exactly how much danger he was in when he took off (Our guess: A LOT.). But he does break down what money means to him in the ESPN The Magazine piece, and it's pretty clear that he's going to do whatever it takes to put his new $100-plus million contract to good use. You might not want to read the piece if you're a frustrated Knicks fan (Carmelo doesn't talk much about basketball in it) but it's definitely worth a read.
