Three Bills Players Throw Multiple Shots at Odell Beckham Jr.: “His World Is Based on Hype”

Odell Beckham Jr. had his least impressive performance of the 2015-16 NFL season against the Bills on Sunday afternoon. Yes, the talented Giants wide receiver did make this ridiculous catch:

But it didn’t count because he was out of bounds. And on the day, he recorded five catches for just 38 yards.

Apparently, OBJ made quite an impact on the Bills secondary, though, because a short time ago, The Buffalo News published a story that is basically one long shot at him. Bills players Preston Brown, Stephon Gilmore, and Duke Williams all accused OBJ of throwing punches at Bills players on Sunday and didn’t pull any punches of their own when they were asked to describe the experience of covering the Madden cover boy. Here are some of the craziest shots they took at him:

  • Brown, on OBJ throwing punches at him and other players: “That’s what he does. He’ll get away with it. He’s the ‘golden boy’ of the league. He’s on the cover of Madden. Sometimes, you get away with stuff like that.”
  • Gilmore, on OBJ overreacting to physical coverage: “I don’t know what’s up with him. He acts like…you’re supposed to let him catch the ball. He’s weird. He gets mad when you play physical with him. He’s weird. He’s different. It’s kind of like you’re playing with your little brother and he gets mad at you for being too physical with him—throwing a tantrum. I’m like, ‘Man, we’re playing football. It’s a physical game…He’s a prima donna. He feels like he’s on top of the world, and nobody’s supposed to do anything to him.”
  • Williams, on OBJ throwing cheap shots: “A guy like that, you expect him to be a stand-up guy, but I guess it is a part of his game. He likes to throw cheap shots here and there and gets away with it. I guess it’s his thing…Right in front of the referee and he threw a jab at me and ran behind his teammates. He ran away. I’m just like, ‘Wow, that’s crazy.’”
  • Gilmore, on OBJ being an “alright” wide receiver: “I don’t really watch TV and listen to the hype. I study guys on the film and then I judge him. He’s not Sammy Watkins. He has good hands, he can catch. He’s good, but he’s not what people think after that one catch. His world is based on hype and that one catch. Everybody sees that, everybody knows him for that, and people don’t really look at film and watch him and really don’t know what type of player he is.”

Hmmm…So what type of player is OBJ? A guy who is overhyped simply because of one incredible catch or…
