Earlier this week, we provided you with an in-depth look at how 49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams was getting absolutely killed on Twitter after committing two costly fumbles in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday. Folks were calling for dude's head after the blunders (in some cases, literally) and acting a fool over the outcome of a football game. It really made us—and, from the sound of things, a lot of other people out there—question how seriously some people take sports.
Well, as it turns out, this story might have a happy ending after all. No, the Niners still won't be going to the Super Bowl. But thanks to a 7-year-old 49ers fan named Owen Shure, we've regained some of our faith in humanity. Like most Niners fans, Shure was devastated by San Francisco's loss. But rather than get angry at Williams, he decided to write a letter to him in order to try and make him feel better about the loss. Here's what it said:
Dear Mr. Williams:
We just watched the Playoff game. I feel really bad for you but I wanted to tell you that you had a great season. you sould be very proud, so I wanted to say thank you.
I am your #1 FAN!
Owen Shure
Los Angeles, CA
P.S. your awsome
Sniff, sniff. Is it just us—or did it just get a little bit dusty in here? Thanks, Owen. Crazy how it took a 7-year-old to put this whole story into perspective, huh?
