The Nationals have suspended Jonathan Papelbon for the remainder of the season. Here's the statement they released:

October MLB craziness is usually reserved for the teams that do make it to the playoffs. The Nationals aren't one of those teams, but they're getting attention because of how Bryce Harper and Jonathan Papelbon got into it as they lost to the lowly Phillies.

Harper hit a fly-out in the bottom of the eighth, and as he headed to the dugout, Papelbon reprimanded him for not running that ball out fast enough. The two exchanged words before they fought and gave us this image of Papelbon choking the likely NL MVP.

#Papelbon was all like "Our team didn't choke, I'll show you a choke..." #Harper #Nats #natitude

That was definitely a low point, but the game didn't get that much better in the last inning. The Phillies—looking for some catharsis after a bad year—poured on eight runs to win, 12-5.
