5 Must See Upcoming English Premier League Matches

We're approaching the business end of the English Premier League season, and here at Complex, we're pretty damn excited about it. At the top of the table, you've got two rivals battling it out for the title. In the blue corner, Manchester City—the richest club in the world, with a roster assembled at the not insignificant cost of $560 million. In the red corner, Manchester United—who, despite having what (on paper at least) looks like one of their weakest rosters in years, are not going to let their crosstown enemies get their hands on the trophy without a fight. City has led the EPL for practically the entire season, but United has clawed its way back into it, and now hold a one point lead at the top.

Just behind them another scrap is taking place between three teams desperate to grab the remaining two places in the European Champions League. Tottenham has been in pole position all year, but with just a handful of games remaining they're on the ropes, with Arsenal and Chelsea both poised to take advantage. It's not just the top five that are keeping it interesting—at the bottom of the table, five teams are separated by just six points. With just ten more rounds of games to go, it's a battle for Premier League survival for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wigan, Bolton, Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn. So, that's the story so far. Here are five upcoming EPL games you should check out.

When: Saturday, 8:45 a.m. ET
London derbies are always important, but this is a huge game for both clubs. Chelsea has had an inconsistent year, with a misfiring big-money superstar and a coach who could not win over his players and was subsequently fired (sound familiar, Knicks fans?).

Tottenham fans have been in dreamland all season. Their team have played with an entertaining, attacking style that opponents have struggled to cope with, keeping Spurs comfortably in the top three. In true Tottenham style, with ten games remaining and a Champions League spot in sight, the wheels are falling off. A Chelsea win would move them within two points of Tottenham for fourth place. A Tottenham win would be their first at Stamford Bridge for 22 years, and keep them right behind Arsenal—currently sitting in third.

When: Saturday, 11 a.m. ET
Swansea has played the most attractive soccer in the EPL this year. Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp described them as a “credit to the game,” while fans and media in England have adopted The Swans as their second team.

Everton will be looking to bounce back from two straight losses, to Arsenal and Liverpool. Although sitting in a comfortable mid-table position, coach David Moyes will be hoping his team regain their form as they look ahead to a potential FA Cup semifinal against Liverpool.

When: Saturday, 11:00 a.m. ET
In England, we have a phrase for this kind of game: The Six Pointer. A battle between two clubs staring down the barrel of relegation, both desperate for a win that could prove crucial come the end of the season.

The game will be Bolton's first since Fabrice Muamba collapsed during last Saturday's match with Tottenham, and with the 23 year old still in intensive care, it would be more than understandable if their minds were not entirely on the task at hand. Unfortunately, having just dropped into the relegation zone, they now face one of the most crucial games of the season. Blackburn will make the short trip to their local rivals sitting six points clear of relegation, having won their last two games. After a year of fan protests, poor form, and strange advertising featuring chicken, Premier League survival would be an incredible achievement for Rovers.

When: Saturday, 1:30 p.m. ET
If you're a team that recently lost top spot in the league to your most hated rivals, Stoke City are possibly the last side you want to face—hard working and organized, with a knack of sneaking a goal from nowhere, and a giant-killing mentality when playing at home. That's the situation facing Manchester City this weekend, but following a hard fought win over Chelsea on Wednesday (that saw the return of a certain Carlos Tevez), expect City to go all out for victory. And if I were a betting man, I'd put money on Tevez completing his comeback by scoring the winner.

When: Monday, 3 p.m. ET
By the time this game kicks off on Monday, Manchester City could have regained first place in the EPL table, putting the pressure back on United. Sir Alex Ferguson's side have been here before, though (19 times, to be precise). Playing at home in front of a packed house, and following their 5-0 hammering of Wolves, all odds will be on United comfortably beating Clint Dempsey's Fulham. The two sides last met in December at Fulham's Craven Cottage, with United winning 5-0.
