Earl Thomas appeared to give the middle finger toward his team's sideline as he was carted off the field in what might well be his last game with the Seattle Seahawks.
First, a bit of backstory: Earl Thomas is on the final year of his contract with the Seattle Seahawks. When the team showed no signs of re-signing the six-time Pro Bowler, Thomas made a point of trying to ensure that he doesn't do any excess work and injure himself.
He sat out the entire preseason. He's also made a point of skipping practices and accepting the fines that go along with it. At 29 years old in a brutal league, it makes sense. And he's been frank about his reasoning.
“I need to make sure my body is 100 [percent]. I’m investing in myself," he told The Seattle Times. "If they were invested in me, I would be out there practicing. But if I feel like if I have anything, even if it’s something small, if I got a headache, I’m not practicing.”
While trying to defend against a touchdown pass from Cardinals QB Josh Rosen, he tripped over a wide receiver and came down wrong on his left leg. According to Ian Rappaport, he suffered a break in his left leg that could have been worse.
"Not nearly as bad as a ligament tear would’ve been. He should be 100% by the Super Bowl... and free agency," Rapoport wrote on Twitter.
While it's not the worst-case scenario for Thomas, it's easy to see why he would want to let the team know exactly how he felt on the way off the field.
